These stairs must have been made either between the two world wars or shortly after the second.
They lead to the top of the hill south of our village, to a memorial.
Sometimes you can see me staring at the memorial, see below.

Extra: this memorial is, IMHO, ugly and outdated.
Okay, I'm fine with remembering the family members, friends, neighbours, etc. after a war.
But need it be with such an ugly thing? And then the dead of WWI are called our "heroes".
Germany was the aggressor, not a victim. The texts are all in ancient German gothic font.
And last but not least, only the German dead are mentioned. Not the others.
(At least the village has some "Stolpersteine".) I would love to see this thing disappear.
